How to enroll your Google Workspace Account/gmail in 2FA/MFA

Important: If you do not enroll in 2FA/MFA before the enforcement date, you will be unable to self-enroll and will need assistance from IT to regain access to your account.

Why is 2FA/MFA Necessary?

In today’s digital landscape, passwords alone are not enough to protect your account from unauthorized access. 2FA/MFA adds an additional layer of security by requiring a second form of verification beyond your password. This significantly reduces the risk of account breaches and ensures that your personal and professional information remains secure.

What is 2FA/MFA?

2FA/MFA involves two steps to verify your identity:

  1. Something you know: Your password.
  2. Something you have: A secondary device (such as your smartphone) where you receive a verification code.

What to Expect

Starting September 15, 2024, you will be required to use 2FA/MFA to access your sensitive Google Workspace account. This means that in addition to entering your password, you will need to verify your identity using a second factor, such as a code sent to your phone.
